Since our inception enormous strides have been made thanks to the contribution of numerous volunteers and staff. A cornerstone of our philosophy is that the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to truly engage people in collaborative efforts to address complex health issues can be greatly enhanced by providing unique personal and professional leadership opportunities. 

Our Foundation grants two scholarships for volunteers and staff members:

The Gavin Turley Scholarship for Civic Engagement 

The Harvey Thomson Scholarship Fund 


Applicants must:

  • Be a Canadian resident;
  • Be a current volunteer or staff member of the Kidney Foundation with a successful track record and the proven ability to actively engage others in the Foundation’s work;
  • Have a plan to be involved in a specific personal / professional developmental program focused on enhancing their ongoing work with the Foundation;
  • Provide a short perspective on how they would see their participation in their selected personal / professional development program increase community and individual engagement in their ongoing work or that of the overall Foundation.
  • Applications must be approved by the local branch office Executive Director.

The Foundation’s Selection Committee will review all applications and will notify applicants as to their decision. Scholarship recipients are announced mid-December and notified by email or letter. Scholarship cheques will be made payable directly to the recipient upon proof of enrolment.
