National Organ & Tissue Donation Awareness Week

Every year, far too many people lose their lives to kidney disease. Although there is currently no cure for it, a kidney transplant is often the best form of treatment for many patients. Unfortunately, the number of people in need of a donor kidney far outweighs the number of available donors.

That’s why The Kidney Foundation engages in opportunities to amplify campaigns about organ and tissue donation, further leveraging National Organ & Tissue Donation Awareness Week (NOTDAW), held annually during the last week of April.

Leave well so others can live well

Through social media, we can bring attention to the importance of organ donation and inspire people to take action. Leave Well, a national collaborative campaign launched in April 2023 by Canadian Blood Services, aims to raise awareness about NOTDAW, help Canadians understand the importance of organ and tissue donation, and bring the registration process to people in a few simple clicks.

As there is a critical need for donors across the country, Leave Well strives to show Canadians just how much of an impact a single organ donor has on multiple lives. In fact, a single organ donor can save eight lives, and when tissue donation is included, more than two dozen lives can be saved.

Despite 90% of Canadians supporting organ donation, only 32% are registered as organ donors. This is why registration matters so much. To learn more about the campaign, visit www.donateyourorgans.ca.

We invite you to join us in raising awareness during NOTDAW. Together, we can save lives and make a difference in the fight against kidney disease.
