Together Strong: Register. Tell Your Family. Be Inspired.

The Kidney Foundation is proud to be a community partner of Green Shirt Day on April 7. On this special day, we honour and remember Logan Boulet’s legacy and his impact on countless lives as he inspired thousands of Canadians to register as organ donors.

As April 7 is Good Friday this year, the Green Shirt Day Committee is encouraging businesses and schools to participate from April 3-6.

Why Organ Donation is Important

Canadians afflicted by various illnesses depend on organ and tissue donation to survive. In fact, 76% of Canadians waiting for an organ transplant are waiting for a kidney.

We strongly encourage you to join us this #GreenShirtDay to educate and inspire yourself and others to make the gift of life.

The Story of Green Shirt Day

In April 2018, Logan Boulet was fatally injured in the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus crash that took place in Saskatchewan. Weeks before the tragedy, Logan had registered his decision to be an organ donor and discussed his wishes with friends and family. Through his generous gifts, the 21-year-old defenseman went on to save six lives—a story that inspired almost 150,000 Canadians to become registered organ donors.

In 2019, the family of Logan Boulet held the first annual national Green Shirt Day in honour of their son Logan and the Bronco family. They aimed to increase awareness about the importance of organ donation and honour Logan’s precious gift. This highly impactful annual campaign is known as Green Shirt Day and takes place on April 7.

We hope you will join the Canadian organ and tissue donation community in championing this movement of hope and inspiration by wearing green on April 7.
