Living Organ Donor Expense Reimbursement Program

Region:
Alberta North & Territories

Living organ donation is an act of altruism that reduces the wait time for patients in need of a life-saving kidney, partial liver or partial lung. By agreeing to become a Living Organ Donor, donors travel to and from a transplant hospital for a variety of tests and surgery, which may result in financial loss.

To minimize the potential financial burdens associated with the living donation process, the Kidney Foundation Alberta branches have established the Living Organ Donor Expense Reimbursement Program (LODERP) with a grant from Alberta Health and Wellness.

To qualify for reimbursement, the recipient of the kidney, partial liver, or partial lung must be a resident of Alberta; the donor may live anywhere. Travel, accommodation, meals, parking and loss of income are areas for potential reimbursement.
