Living Donor Circle of Excellence
The Kidney Foundation of Canada is a strategic partner in the Living Donor Circle of Excellence program (CoE), along with American and Canadian Society of Transplantation. The CoE program recognizes and celebrates companies that lead the way in supporting those who step up to save a life as a living organ donor. These companies not only change lives but also establish themselves as leaders in corporate responsibility and healthcare.
Living organ donors shouldn’t have to worry about their paycheck when deciding whether to give the gift of life. Members of CoE resolve this barrier by ensuring donors are covered for at least 80% wage replacement during the recovery period after donating a solid organ such as a kidney, or partial liver or lung.

Your help will:
Remove Financial Barriers: Many people who need a lifesaving transplant have a willing donor, but the donor faces barriers such as lost wages and out-of-pocket expenses. While there are existing programs, including Kidney Foundation programs, which may cover some costs, lost wages remain a significant burden. These financial challenges can delay or prevent donors from completing their goal of giving a lifesaving gift.
Increase Organ Donation: Living donors save lives. The demand for organs far exceeds the supply, leading to wait times from a deceased donor averaging 3 to 4 years, or more. Longer wait times can worsen patients' conditions, potentially making them ineligible for transplants and people are dying while waiting. A transplant from a living donor is highly successful, wait times are significantly shorter, and there are notably better donor organ survival rates.
