Gift of Life - Humanitarian Award

Humanitarian Award was established by the Kidney Foundation, Québec Branch in 2006 to recognize the humanitarian efforts of companies which facilitated, in various ways, transplantation or donation of a kidney for one or more of their employees. This award aims to educate companies in Québec to the importance of supporting their employees in the process of kidney donation or transplantation.

Complete the registration form and reward your employer's actions towards organ donation.

The Gift of life - Humanitarian Award acknowledges and publicly recognizes efforts made by companies in this area so that they serve as a model and hence, create a ripple effect in the education of the business community to the problem of people waiting for a kidney transplant or wishing to donate a kidney. More than 800 Quebecers are awaiting a kidney transplant and, although there is government compensation for costs incurred by an organ transplant recipient or donor, companies are the only ones that can facilitate the process of organ donation or transplantation of their employee. All applications must be filled and submitted by the employee who received a kidney transplant or donated a kidney. The nominated company must have a place of business in Québec. The award will be presented within the framework of the activities held during the National Organ Donation and Tissue Awareness Week in April.

To be eligible for the Gift of Life – Humanitarian Award, companies must have offered their employees - the kidney transplant recipients or the kidney donors - conditions consistent with one or more of the following criteria:

  • Payment of regular salary before, during and after the kidney transplant or donation.

  • Employees entitled to flexible hours or paid leave for medical examinations or activities related to the organ donation or transplant process.

  • Access to psychological or financial support, or other forms of support.

  • Easing or modification of tasks on the return to employment, depending on the type of work carried out.

  • Employment retained with the same conditions and benefits.

Living Donor Recognition Program

Every year, living people donate one of their kidneys to help someone suffering from advanced renal failure who needs a transplant to regain their health.

Giving a kidney to provide a better quality of life to someone who is suffering is an act of great generosity, and we believe that it deserves to be highlighted.

Living donation, a gift of life.

We want to recognize living donors. If you are a donor or someone who has had a transplant thanks to a living donation, get in touch with us so that we can recognize this gift of life.

President's Award

This award, whose recipient is chosen exclusively by the presidency of the Branch, is given to an exceptional volunteer who, over the past year or over several years, has actively and remarkably contributed to the mission of The Foundation.

Morty-Tarder Award for the Chapter of the Year

Devastated by the death of their son Morty Tarder, a young Montreal architect who died from kidney failure, his family decided to mobilize to create an organization that would raise funds for research to better understand this disease. Thus, in 1964, The Canadian Kidney Foundation – as it was then called – was born in Montreal. The Tarder family, in this way, laid The Foundations for the very first chapter of The Foundation in Montreal and paved the way forward. This award is given to a chapter that has significantly supported The Foundation over the past year in all its activities, both in fundraising and patient services.

Public Relations Award

This award is given to a volunteer for their contribution to The Foundation's visibility in traditional media, social media, and on the Internet. It aims to recognize the exceptional contribution of this person in raising public awareness about kidney disease and its impacts.

Financial Development Award

This award is given to an individual, a group of individuals, or a chapter that, through their commitment, significantly contributes to achieving or exceeding fundraising goals other than those of corporate campaigns.

Michel-Perron Award for a significant financial contribution to The Kidney Foundation of Canada

In April 1993, a week after receiving a kidney transplant, businessman Michel Perron decided to become a volunteer at The Foundation to promote organ donation. His commitment, contribution, and remarkable achievements in various ways have had a major impact. In addition to supporting various fundraising campaigns, patient services, and the promotion of organ donation, Michel Perron is the only kidney transplant recipient to have reached both poles of the planet. This award is given to a company that, over the past year or over several years, has made a significant financial contribution, either through a donation or the organization of a campaign for the benefit of The Foundation.

Jean-Jacques-Bégin Award for commitment to providing programs and services to people with kidney failure

Jean-Jacques Bégin, who was placed on dialysis in 1966, supported The Foundation in all its areas of activity. He notably chaired numerous patient service committees, the Estrie chapter, and the Quebec Branch from 1980 to 1982. His tireless work as a volunteer for many years allowed for a considerable expansion of patient services. Jean-Jacques Bégin died in 1999, at the age of 58, after a long battle with kidney failure.
