Program for Reimbursing Expenses of Living Organ Donors (PRELOD)
Choosing to donate a kidney to a friend, family member or anonymously is a beautiful gift. To help reduce the financial burden associated with the living donation process, living organ donors may apply for financial support through the Program for Reimbursing Expenses of Living Organ Donors (PRELOD).
The program aims to reduce the financial burden that may prevent someone from deciding to become a living organ donor. Living donors may apply to be reimbursed for eligible reasonable out-of-pocket expenses for travel, parking, meals, accommodation and loss of income according to the eligibility criteria.
Trillium Gift of Life Network, Ontario’s organ and tissue donation agency, manages the reimbursement program on behalf of The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. You can also obtain information about PRELOD on their website.
PRELOD is available to anyone in Ontario, out-of-province or out-of- country who donates or intends to donate an organ or part of an organ to an Ontario resident. The living organ recipient must have an Ontario health card to show proof he/she is covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Program (OHIP).
