My story begins before I was even born. My mom learned that something was wrong with my kidneys when she was five months pregnant. I was born with acute renal failure and post urethra valves, which made it hard for my bladder to work properly. I was rushed to SickKids Hospital just five hours after I was born. The very next day, I had my first surgery. There were many surgeries before I turned three.

When I was three, I started dialysis. That was tough, but my family and I kept going, hoping for a miracle. And when I was six years old, that miracle came – a new kidney!

The transplant went well, but just as we thought things would get easier, I got diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a type of cancer. That meant more treatment, more time in the hospital, and more surgeries. It was a difficult journey, but my family and I never gave up.

Now, I’m thirteen. It’s been 6 years since my kidney transplant and I’m doing really well. Every day I’m not in the hospital feels like a gift, and my family and I make the most of every moment together.

Since I was four, we’ve joined the Kidney Walk to support research and help other families like ours. Next year will be our 10th Kidney Walk! The best feeling is crossing that finish line with my family and friends, and knowing that I’ve walked 5 kms, always makes me feel proud.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s to try your best and never give up. You’re stronger than you think, even when things are tough. I hope my story helps others keep going, too.
