Guest Speaker: Maintaining a healthy lifestyle through exercise

This session will explore living with kidney disease at all ages, with a focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle through safe and practical movement. Topics include the importance of pelvic floor exercises for individuals with kidney disease, gentle exercise options tailored to different stages of the condition, and proper ergonomics to help caregivers reduce strain and prevent injury. The presentation will be followed by a Q & A period.

About Our Speakers

Lisa's Bio:

Lisa completed her Doctor of Physiotherapy degree at the University of Melbourne in Australia in 2014 after finishing her Bachelors degree at The University of Western Ontario. Lisa has over 10 years of practice as a Physiotherapist and is a certified clinical Pilates instructor.

Lisa is currently the Clinic Director at Alliance Physio. She has a wide variety of experiences working with patients of all ages and backgrounds including athletes, paediatric conditions, pre and post-natal populations. Lisa has taken additional continuing education courses in treatment of the pelvic and lumbar spine, shoulder, and temporomandibular joint, and dry needling.

Lisa has a passion for using her expertise in clinical Pilates to help patients with chronic low back pain, postural dysfunction, prenatal conditions, osteoarthritis, and osteoporosis. Lisa believes in a collaborative role in Physiotherapy between her and her patients. She encourages all her patients to be active by incorporating exercises that fits into their daily activities no matter what their physical health is.

During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children. She loves being active and playing Pickleball, tennis, badminton, and swimming.

Lisa's grandmother had kidney disease and was on dialysis for 15 years prior to passing away in 2012. Lisa's mother-in-law also worked as a dialysis nurse at St. Michael's Hospital for 30 years.

Stefan's Bio:

Stefan Milosavljevic has completed his 3-year program at Humber College achieving a CMTCA Accreditation from one of the two best schools in Canada for Massage Therapy. He decided to pursue massage after working as a personal trainer, experiencing much of what it means to help people through their journey to health.

He has had the opportunity to work with a variety of different populations, and has found great joy from applying a client-centered approach towards recovery. Stefan has a reputation for his thorough treatment approach and speedy results for a wide range of conditions. Stefan has a drive to get his patients feeling better and back to lives of comfort and health.

Stefan was diagnosed with stage 3A degenerative kidney disease as a result of a grade 5 reflux when he was born. Stefan tries to maintain a healthy lifestyle despite his diagnosis by managing his diet, exercise, and keeping up to date with evidence-based treatments.
