The Kidney Foundation, Manitoba Branch is pleased to announce the generous donation of $66,900 from A Port in the Storm. The funds will be used to assist individuals affected by kidney disease from remote areas who are experiencing a financial burden. This can mean subsidizing housing, food, transportation or other costs specifically related to accessing medical treatment, dialysis training or support in Winnipeg.

“A Port in the Storm’s mandate was to provide affordable temporary housing in Winnipeg for people from rural and Northern areas who had to stay in the city to receive medical treatment. Port’s mission was to ease patients’ financial burdens and offer them and their families a supportive environment during a stressful time away from home,” explains Armando Versace, Director, Programs and Communications at The Kidney Foundation, Manitoba Branch.

“A Port in the Storm has chosen to cease its operations, but this donation will perpetuate Port’s mission,” expressed Greg Unger, Executive Director, “and we are honoured to have been chosen to continue its legacy.”

Thanks to A Port in the Storm Legacy Fund, the Kidney Foundation will provide vital support for accessible services to individuals affected by kidney disease throughout Manitoba.
