Celebrating Volunteers and Raising Organ Donation Awareness

Between April 24-30, two Canadian national awareness campaigns will be taking place during which The Kidney Foundation will be celebrating the generosity of those who make a difference in our community.

National Volunteer Week

This year’s National Volunteer Week theme focuses on Empathy in Action. Empathy describes the ability to understand, recognize, and share the feelings of others. Empathy is emotional intelligence; it is compassion, and it is a trait that often inspires selfless acts that enhance the well-being of whole communities.

At The Kidney Foundation, our volunteers are crucial to the success of our organization, but more importantly, they are indispensable to the lives of those affected by kidney disease. Thanks to volunteer efforts to help with programs, services and fundraising initiatives, patients and their families are given a renewed hope for a brighter future, and for this, we thank our devoted volunteers immensely!

During this year’s National Volunteer Week, we invite you to read the stories of some volunteers as we highlight their contributions and their impacts. Meet Kidney Community Kitchen volunteer Fiona.

We hope this inspires you to join the effort: kidney.ca/Get-Involved

National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week

The last week of April also celebrates National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week (NOTDAW). Approximately 4,100 Canadians are waiting for an organ donation, and most of them are in need of a kidney transplant.

During NOTDAW, we encourage you to help us raise awareness about the current facts surrounding organ transplantation. At the same time, we invite you to remember the patients and the families who are in need and honor the organ donors who have made a generous gift of life.
