Since its creation in 1996, the Medal for Research Excellence has been awarded annually to a Canadian resident who is recognized nationally and/or internationally for career accomplishment in kidney research. Recipients of this award are examples of Canadian research distinction. This award is a lifetime achievement, showcasing excellence in the Canadian kidney research field.

Excellence can be determined by the following:
  • the impact of an individual’s research on the discovery of new knowledge to advance the field of kidney-related research (biomedical, clinical, population health, allied health etc.), and/or
  • the potential of the recipient’s body of work to significantly improve patient care or the lives of those affected by kidney disease

Please note that eligibility for this award is not limited to clinical or biomedical research, and rather determined based on the impact that the work will have on the field of kidney disease.
