2000 Medal for Research Excellence
University of Alberta Hospital
Dr. Halloran is renowned for his contributions in the scientific areas of immunology and immunotherapy. Director of the division of nephrology and immunology at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, he has worked extensively to understand the mechanisms of action of existing agents, including cyclosporine, and to develop new immunosuppressive drugs and combinations which have fewer side effects.

Dr. Halloran's most recent studies explore what he believes to be major determinants of the survival of a kidney transplant-tissue quality at the time of transplantation and the history of the transplanted kidney.

Author of published papers in journals worldwide, Dr. Halloran is chairman of the board of trustees of the Roche Organ Transplant Research Foundation, an international transplant research funding agency, and was recently named editor-in-chief of the new American Journal of Transplantation.
Through the funding of research initiatives and related clinical education, the Foundation's Research Program allows investigators like Dr. Halloran to remain committed to a discovery process that will ensure a brighter future for kidney patients and their families.
