Hemodialysis Treatment Travel Loan

The Southern Alberta Branch's Hemodialysis Treatment Travel Loan is offered to help make travel more accessible for dialysis patients.

Albertans must pay for dialysis treatments up-front when they travel to another country.  The costs vary, depending on the dialysis centre you choose. After you submit receipts and forms to Alberta Health, it can take several months to be reimbursed for the eligible portion of your treatment costs.  The Kidney Foundation Travel Loan is designed to help support you financially while you wait to be reimbursed by Alberta Health.  Once you receive payment from Alberta Health, you then repay your Kidney Foundation loan. Our goal is to help alleviate some of the financial stress associated with travel.

The Hemodialysis Treatment Travel Loan program is intended for people receiving hemodialysis treatment within Alberta Kidney Care - Southern Alberta who are covered by Alberta Health.  People approved for this program will receive an interest-free loan matching the amount that will be reimbursed by Alberta Health for dialysis treatment and the doctor's fee, to a maximum of 12 dialysis runs. People travelling outside of the country for longer than six months are not eligible for a loan.
