An Evening of Hope Gala Celebrates Kidney Foundation’s 60th Anniversary

The Kidney Foundation of Canada will be celebrating its 60th anniversary at an Evening of Hope on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the York Mills Gallery. Emceed by investigative reporter and kidney transplant recipient, Cristina Howorun, An Evening of Hope will celebrate the deep commitment of thousands of volunteers, who helped build a vibrant national organization dedicated to improving the lives of Canadians living with kidney disease.

1 in 10 Canadians has kidney disease, and millions more are at risk. The Kidney Foundation, with the support of volunteers and generous donors, has grown and evolved over the past 60 years. The Foundation funds promising research, educational programs, services, and awareness campaigns. These investments and resources are helping change the course of kidney disease and provide a brighter future for those affected.

“We are grateful to the many volunteers, financial donors, corporate supporters and renal and allied health care professional who have done so much to further the work of The Kidney Foundation” said Anthony Tirone, Executive Director of The Kidney Foundation of Canada’s Ontario Branch. “While there have been vast improvements in our understanding of kidney disease, its causes and treatments, there is so much more we can do.” The annual gala will raise important funds to further The Kidney Foundation’s mission.

Our first volunteers were determined that kidney research was crucial to change the outcome for people living with kidney failure. Research investments have led to improved treatment options, new ways of detecting and delaying the progression of kidney disease and optimizing the success of transplantation. Today, The Kidney Foundation is the largest non-governmental funder of kidney research in Canada, investing over $138 million since 1964. Guests attending An Evening of Hope will have the opportunity to hear from experts in the field of nephrology research including Dr. James Scholey and Dr. Ayodele Odutayo.
