About Dr. Michelle Hladunewich:

Dr. Hladunewich completed her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Alberta, her internal medicine training at the University of Toronto, and then proceeded to complete her Critical Care and Nephrology Fellowships at Stanford University Medical Center. In addition to her research training in glomerular physiology, she completed a Master’s of Science in Clinical Investigation also at Stanford University. Dr. Hladunewich joined the University of Toronto as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in 2003, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2013 and to Professor in 2019. Since arriving at Sunnybrook, she developed a clinical and research program in women’s health and rare glomerular diseases, garnering a national and international reputation. However, her most important priority will always be patient care. Dr. Hladunewich is a recognized expert in the diagnosis and management of kidney disease in pregnancy as well as glomerulonephritis. In recognition of her staunch patient advocacy and very dedicated patient care she was awarded the Human Touch Award by Cancer Care Ontario, the 2019 CPSO Council Award, was inducted as a 2020 Master Clinician in the University of Toronto Department of Medicine Academy of Master Clinicians, and in 2021 was awarded the American Society of Nephrology Midcareer Award. She is presently the Physician-in-Chief at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, and is the Ontario Renal Network Medical Lead for Glomerulonephritis and Specialty Clinics.
