Presenters

Nancy Verdin

Dr Amit Garg

Nancy has been a kidney patient for 34 years. She initially had a crash start on hemodilaysis. She started on CAPD, has had three failed transplants, and has been treated with both in-center and home hemodilaysis. Her passion is to find a way to bring wellness and recovery to people with all types of CKD. One of her 'aha' moments was when she realized that her lifestyle (recreational sports) and the everyday demands of walking to and at work and climbing stairs at work and at home helped recover her physical and mental health as she adjusted to living with dialysis. As a patient partner, she has had the opportunity to speak for people living with all stages of CKD, with a perspective of seeing dialysis and CKD as a way of life that can be supported by being physically and mentally active.

Theresa Cowan

Dr. Sunita Singh
Theresa has worked as a Kinesiologist with kidney patients for the past four years. She specializes in early mobility programs for inpatients and rehabilitation for people waiting for a kidney transplant. Theresa feels very lucky to work with a team of Kinesiologists who collaborate to improve kidney patients' function and quality of life.

Dr. Jennifer MacRae

Francine Girard-Griffith
Dr. MacRae is a Professor at the Cumming School of Medicine and Department of Cardiac Sciences at the University of Calgary. As Medical Director for Alberta Kidney Care South, she works to develop innovative clinical programs to improve the quality of life for people living with kidney disease. Her clinical and research interests include improving the experience during the transition to dialysis and incorporating exercise to reduce symptom burden. She is a firm believer in health and wellness and loves to work out, walk her dogs, and hang out with friends and family.
