Living organ donation is an act of altruism that reduces the wait time for patients in need of a life-saving kidney, partial liver or partial lung. By agreeing to become a living organ donor, donors travel to and from a transplant hospital for a variety of tests and surgery, which may result in financial loss.

The Living Organ Donor Expense Reimbursement Program is a provincial program that reimburses some out of pocket expenses and makes it possible to be a living donor, even when living far away from the recipient. In Quebec this program is managed by Transplant Quebec.
