Kidney Suites

To support post-kidney transplant kidney patients who live outside the lower mainland but must stay in Vancouver for 2 months during their post-transplant recovery (or for children undergoing hemodialysis) the BC & Yukon Branch offers 7 Kidney Suites located in Vancouver.  These Kidney Suites are free for those who meet our financial criteria (low income) and just $50 per night for those who do not.
 

How do I apply for a Kidney Suite?

Applications are made through transplant social workers at VGH, St. Paul’s Hospital and BC Children’s Hospital.

About our Kidney Suites

All the suites are fully furnished, and all are on major transit lines, see below for full descriptions.
Six of our Kidney Suites are dedicated to post-kidney transplant adult recipients.  We also offer a townhouse suite for both post-kidney transplant adults and children and families while undergoing hemodialysis and or/undergoing transplant surgery. 

• Chelsea Tower Suites
  Chelsea Tower is located near Main and Broadway and houses four of our Kidney Suites: three one-bedroom suites and one bachelor.  
  
  The one-bedroom suites all have a queen-size bed and a pull-out couch in the living room, a balcony, bathroom with tub and shower and a kitchen.  The bachelor has a queen size bed, roll-away cot, kitchen and bathroom but no couch or balcony.  
  
  Although this building has an elevator and is wheelchair accessible, the bathrooms are not. The building offers coin-operated washers and dryers, a large lounge area on the top floor and a beautiful garden space.  All activities planned for the other residents of this building are also available to our residents.  All suites have WIFI, cable TV and telephone.  Amenities like a grocery store and pharmacy are just 3 blocks away.  This is an adult building so children may visit but not stay in the suites.
  
  
• Comox Kidney Suite
  A two-bedroom suite that is located a few blocks behind St Paul’s Hospital.  This suite has a bedroom with a queen-sized bed and another bedroom with double and single bunkbeds.  This suite is designed for families to be able stay together while one parent is recovering from transplant surgery.  This suite also has a dining area, kitchen, large living room with TV and fireplace.  The laundry facilities in this building are free for our residents.  The suite comes with one, free, secured parking spot. Amenities are just 3 blocks away. 
  
  
• Steeves Manor Kidney Suite
  Our newest suite for adults is located near Jericho Beach (4th Ave and Alma St) in Vancouver. This is a nicely appointed one-bedroom suite with kitchen, living room, bathroom, balcony and bedroom with queen size bed.  There is a roll-away cot, so the maximum occupancy is 3 adults.  Laundry is free in the building as are all the activities offered by the building.  There is a secure, underground parking spot and ample street parking.  The nearest grocery store is just 2 blocks away.
  
  
• Townhouse Kidney Suite
  A family-friendly townhouse for both post-kidney transplant adults and children and their families who need to stay in Vancouver while on hemodialysis and/or undergoing kidney transplant surgery.  This suite has its own washer and dryer, large living room, dining room and kitchen plus 3 bedrooms and a bathroom.  There is a small yard as well.
