Bibi’s Story

Kidney disease has had a devastating impact on my life, both emotionally and financially.

When she first heard her diagnosis, Bibi was terrified. She had already watched her father die at the hand of this disease.

Bibi was anxious about going for dialysis in the same clinic where her father had spent his final days, and she ended up hospitalized for several months. Thankfully, she was able to overcome her fears, leave the hospital and receive life-saving treatment. But her kidney function was so poor, she was prevented from working.

Without the steady revenue from her job, Bibi lost her home.

“I’ve experienced this firsthand. Kidney disease has had a devastating impact on my life, both emotionally and financially. At my lowest point, I was living in a motel with my son, Saleem, after we lost our home. Many days, we had to choose between having a roof over our heads or putting food on the table.”

Bibi received emergency short-term financial assistance through The Kidney Foundation that enabled her to move into a new home. “If it wasn’t for The Kidney Foundation, then people like me would not be able to survive,” Bibi told us. “We would not be here. You are basically saving our lives.”

“That’s why I’m sharing my story with you today. The Kidney Foundation brought me out of a dark place and into the light of hope. Now I want to do my part to help others who may be struggling. I believe we can accomplish great things when we work together.”
