Lottery enables The Kidney Foundation to provide help and hope 

Ontario – The Kidney Foundation, Ontario Branch will soon be launching their only Kidney 50/50 raffle just in time for the holiday season.
 
“Since we started hosting 50/50 draws in 2020, we have raised over $182,000 to support Ontarians living with kidney disease,” says Anthony Tirone, Ontario Branch Executive Director. “These draws support programs that have a direct impact on patients, including peer support, short term financial assistance and education to help them live their best life.”

Ticket sales begin on November 18 at 9:00am and will close on December 2 at 11:59pm with the grand prize draw happening on December 3 at 12:30pm. 

The guaranteed minimum prize is $5,000 and ticket prices are $10 for 5 tickets, $20 for 30 tickets, $40 for 100 tickets and $75 for 250 tickets. Tickets are sold exclusively online at kidney5050.ca.

“Kidney 50/50 is truly a win-win,” said Tirone. “An influx of cash for the winner at a time of year when we’re all spending a little more and even more important, it’s a show of support for Canadians who may be struggling as they navigate their journey with kidney disease.” 

Funds from this draw will support The Kidney Foundation’s short term financial assistance program. The proportion of patients on dialysis who are below Canada’s Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) is much higher than the general population. Starting dialysis often results in a decrease of income at the same time that out-of-pocket costs increase, such as those for transportation to treatment, often three times a week, and medication. 

1 in 10 Canadians has kidney disease and millions more are at risk. The symptoms are often silent, and the disease can progress over time until permanent damage has occurred. End stage kidney disease is treated with dialysis or a kidney transplant; there is no cure.
