Recently, the BC and Yukon Branch hosted a recognition evening for the 2025 inductees into the Living Donor Circle of Excellence (CoE). This initiative honours organizations that implement HR policies to support the lost wages of a living organ donor. Donors give the gift of life, but incur costs. CoE members resolve this barrier by ensuring donors are covered for at least 80% wage replacement during their recovery period. These organizations are establishing themselves as leaders in corporate responsibility and healthcare, showing tremendous support to employees making this incredible choice that has life-changing effects on Canadians and their families.

This year, a record 18 new members were inducted. With now 58 members in Canada, more than 350,000 employees are covered for lost wages should they choose to become a living organ donor. We are thrilled to welcome the following organizations into this prestigious group.

  • Canfor
  • Canpotex Limited
  • Compass Rose Group
  • District of North Vancouver
  • District of Ucluelet
  • District of West Vancouver
  • DP World (Canada) Inc.
  • Farris LLP
  • Fluevog
  • Helijet International Inc.
  • IA Financial Group
  • Kirmac Collision & Autoglass
  • PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc.
  • Seaspan ULC
  • SSA Marine Canada
  • Trigon Pacific Terminal
  • Unipharm Wholesale Drugs Ltd.
  • Vancouver Fraser Port Authority

The Kidney Foundation of Canada is a strategic partner in the CoE, along with American and Canadian Society of Transplantation. While there are existing programs, including Kidney Foundation programs, which may cover some costs, lost wages remain a significant burden. These financial challenges can delay or prevent donors from completing their goal of giving a lifesaving gift.

As CoE founder, Dr. John Gill, says: “Living donors are heroes amongst us; their gift is lifesaving for patients in need of a kidney or liver transplant and has a huge positive impact on society. Patients facing life-threatening diseases are able to live normal lives, raise their families, and participate in their communities. By supporting living organ donors, we are also building stronger communities.”
