Minister of Health Declares March as Kidney Health Month in Alberta

On March 14, staff and volunteers were invited to meet with Minister of Health Sarah Hoffman.  We shared with the Minister our personal connection to kidney disease, why we continue to advocate for a better transplant system, and the critical work we do at the Kidney Foundation.

We emphasized the barriers patients face, and the work we do is in response to those barriers. In addition, our group spoke about the financial burdens experienced by patients, the extreme distance patients outside of urban areas are required to travel for dialysis, and items that provide increased comfort for individuals on dialysis are paid & donated by the Northern Alberta branch.

Our growing community engagement and fundraising initiatives are required so we can provide these resources to impacted individuals. For that, we would like to thank everyone who supports the work we do.  Your support IS impacting the lives of individuals affected by kidney disease & organ transplantation.

So, while we are pleased that the Ministerial Declaration by Minister Sarah Hoffman now recognizes March as Kidney Health Month in Alberta, we hope this is the first step in addressing the gaps experienced by patients.
