GUEST SPEAKER: Exercise Snacks and Winter-Friendly Movement

Tuesday, November 25, 2025
4:00 - 5:30pm or 7:00 - 8:30pm MST
Online
In this Exercise Snack Session, Kinesiologist Joey Ficocelli will begin with a short presentation on how small bursts of movement throughout your day offers great health benefits. Adding even a few minutes of activity at a time can help improve heart health, lower blood pressure, boost energy, and lift your mood. Moving more and sitting less also helps build strength, improve balance, and keep your body flexible. Then Joey will lead an “exercise snack,” guiding you through four simple lower-body warm-up exercises that can be done from your chair followed by two minutes of walking or chair walking. These movements are easy to remember, gentle on the body, and can be done anywhere, at home, at work, or even while watching TV. Join us for this fun session, and a great reminder that every bit of movement counts toward better health and wellbeing.

About Joey Ficocelli:

My name is Joey Ficocelli and I am Kinesiologist with a passion for exercise education, health promotion, and simple physical activity interventions that support societal health and well-being!  Through research, volunteer, and professional experiences, I have taken a keen interest in encouraging and empowering populations that suffer with chronic illness. In clinical research settings, I have worked with a variety of patients with chronic kidney disease ranging from those with recent diagnoses to end-stage patients. Whether it be leading one-on-one meetings with kidney patients hoping to increase their daily physical activity time, exploring the feasibility of an in-center exercise program, or contributing to research findings regarding the cardioprotective effect of intradialytic exercise, my experiences have focused on prioritizing the improved quality of life for people with kidney disease. During the completion of my Bachelors of Kinesiology Degree Program at the University of Toronto in 2024, I had the great privilege of contributing to the Kidney Foundation’s Wellness Hub by developing an online exercise program to support sedentary patients. Currently, I am thrilled to expand this opportunity with the Kidney Foundation to include in-person exercise programming across BC and the Yukon with the Walking-to-Wellness program that highlights social interaction and interval walking to support kidney patients optimize their physical activity habits along their individual health journeys.
