Every year, The Kidney Foundation of Canada provides funding for patients to access summer camp programs across the country. This opportunity gives adults and youth affected by kidney disease or living with a transplant the chance to have new adventures and make new friends in an environment that also provides them with essential medical services.
In Ontario, patients have the opportunity to attend Lion's Camp Dorset, owned and operated by Lion’s Club Camp Dorset Corp. The camp is designed to provide families with the opportunity to enjoy a summer vacation - with an on-site dialysis unit and activities for the whole family. The Ontario Branch subsidizes the program cost for each patient attending ($200 paid directly to Camp Dorset). Individuals requiring additional assistance must be assessed through their Renal Social Worker.
Thanks to the support of generous funders and partners, campers can experience a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities and sports, from waterskiing to land-based activities like zip lining, horseback riding, archery and crafts.
